About - PMDW Marine EGT Kit
NEMA4X/IP65 Sealed Digital Pyrometer with Diesel Probe and Extended Cable
This kit is designed for inboard marine engine installations where the gauge is exposed to moisture, salt air, and washdown conditions.
It includes the PMDW sealed digital pyrometer gauge, a 3/16" EGT-DP diesel probe, stainless steel weld bung, audible alarm, sealed connector boots, and up to 100 feet of Type K thermocouple extension wire—providing a complete marine-ready EGT monitoring solution.
Why Marine Installations Require a Sealed Gauge
Marine environments expose instrumentation to:
- Salt spray
- Condensation
- Humidity cycling
- Washdowns
The PMDW gauge features a NEMA4X / IP65-rated front bezel, providing protection against water jets, dust, and corrosion.
This level of sealing is required for long-term reliability in marine applications.
PMDW Gauge Features
Wide Input Voltage
- 9–28 VDC
- Compatible with 12V and 24V marine systems
Large Display
- 12 mm (0.5") LED characters
- Improved visibility in outdoor or low-visibility conditions
Universal Thermocouple Input
Supports:
- Type K, J, T, E, R, S, B, N
Accuracy
- ±2.3°F / °C absolute
Alarm Relay
- 1A @ 30 VDC
- 0.3A @ 125 VAC
Provides output for:
- Audible alarms
- Warning lights
EGT Monitoring in Marine Diesel Engines
Marine diesel engines often operate under sustained load conditions.
EGT provides early detection of:
- Overloading
- Fuel system issues
- Cooling inefficiencies
Unlike coolant temperature, EGT responds quickly to combustion changes.
EGT-DP Probe: Marine Diesel Design
The EGT-DP probe features:
- Type K thermocouple
- 3/16" (0.187") Inconel sheath
- Enclosed, ungrounded junction
This design protects the sensing junction from moisture, sulfur compounds, and corrosive exhaust environments.
Response Time
- 1200 ms (time constant)
Defined as the time required to reach 63.2% of a step temperature change.
This response time is appropriate for marine engines, where temperature changes occur gradually.
Probe Specifications
- Range: -148 to 2372°F
- Accuracy: ±0.4% of reading
