About the MPG-12C 12-Channel Digital EGT / CHT Pyrometer Gauge

The MPG-12C is a 12-channel digital pyrometer gauge designed for applications where monitoring a single exhaust outlet is not sufficient. Multi-cylinder engines and high-performance systems benefit from simultaneous visibility into individual cylinder temperatures, allowing operators to identify imbalances that would otherwise be hidden by averaged readings.

A single-channel gauge averages temperature across cylinders, which can mask a lean condition or cylinder imbalance. The MPG-12C displays all 12 channels at once, making temperature differences between cylinders readily visible without switching inputs or cycling through readings.

Applications Requiring Multi-Channel EGT

Multi-channel temperature monitoring is critical in applications where engine performance and reliability depend on balanced cylinder operation.

In diesel racing and high-performance applications, small variations between cylinders can lead to performance loss or engine damage. Monitoring all cylinders simultaneously provides real-time insight into engine behavior, allowing adjustments to be made immediately rather than relying on post-run data analysis.

Turbocharged diesel engines and heavy-duty applications benefit similarly. An injector or fueling issue can cause elevated temperature in a single cylinder, which may not be apparent in averaged readings but can be clearly identified when all channels are displayed.

Aircraft piston engines are another key application. Lean-of-peak operation requires monitoring individual cylinder EGTs to ensure balanced operation. A single cylinder operating outside the expected temperature range can indicate a mixture or ignition issue that requires correction.

Display and Channel Scanning

The MPG-12C displays all 12 temperature channels on a single screen, providing a complete view of engine performance in real time. This eliminates the need to scroll through channels and allows operators to quickly identify trends or anomalies.

The gauge also captures peak temperature values for post-run analysis, helping users review performance and identify potential issues.

Alarm thresholds can be configured per channel or globally, allowing flexibility for applications where temperature limits may vary between cylinders due to engine design or airflow differences.

The MPG-12C accepts Type K thermocouple inputs, ensuring compatibility with standard EGT probes used in motorsports and performance applications.
