About HHMD-TM-82N: 2-Channel Handheld Digital Thermocouple Pyrometer Display

The HHMD-TM-82N is a battery-powered, dual-channel handheld thermocouple thermometer designed for portable diagnostic and verification work. It accepts Type K or Type J thermocouples through standard mini thermocouple connectors and displays both channels simultaneously on a dual-line, five-digit LCD.

The unit operates for approximately 250 hours on a single 9V battery and ships ready to use with two Type K test leads, a battery, and a mesh carry case.

This instrument serves a different role than panel-mounted pyrometers such as the DPG-XR or MPG series. Rather than providing continuous in-vehicle monitoring, the HHMD is intended for setup, troubleshooting, verification, and bench testing. Its compatibility with standard mini thermocouple connectors allows it to be used with TSC probes, EGT sensors, CHT sensors, and surface probes without adapters.

Measurement Functions

The HHMD provides multiple measurement modes beyond basic temperature display:

T1 / T2

Displays both channels simultaneously, updating at approximately one sample per second. This mode is used for monitoring two independent temperature points.

T1–T2 (Differential)

Displays the real-time temperature difference between channels. This provides direct differential measurement without manual calculation.

MAX

Stores the highest temperature recorded on each channel since reset.

MIN

Stores the lowest recorded temperature on each channel.

AVG

Displays a continuously updated average value, smoothing short-duration fluctuations.

HOLD

Freezes the displayed value for recording while measurement continues internally.

Resolution and Accuracy

  • Resolution: 0.1°F / 0.1°C
  • Accuracy: ±0.1% of full-scale reading + 0.7°C

Higher resolution allows finer comparison between sensors, especially in calibration, verification, or low-variation measurements. In high-variation environments such as EGT monitoring, this increased resolution typically does not provide additional practical benefit.

Thermocouple Compatibility

The HHMD accepts standard mini thermocouple connectors for Type K and Type J probes.

Correct connector type is critical:

  • Type K connectors use Chromel/Alumel alloys
  • Type J connectors use Iron/Constantan

Using mismatched connector types introduces measurement error.

The polarized connector design prevents reverse insertion and ensures correct polarity.
