MADE IN THE USA
The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor is specifically designed for use in racing, tuning, and testing applications. Made in the USA from superior materials. The Exposed Tip sensing junction provides immediate response to dynamic temperature changes.
The Exhaust Gas Temperature Probe is capable of surviving extreme vibration and heat up to 2300 degrees F (1300 degrees C). The EGT probe will fit most internal combustion engine exhaust systems from approximately .750 inch diameter up to about 4 inch diameter with nominal installation modifications. The EGT probe is 0.25" diameter (6.35 mm) with a 4" (101.6 mm) straight shaft . An adjustable (316 Stainless Steel) 1/8" NPT compression fitting adapter is included. The EGT probe cable lead length is 6 feet (1.8 meters) or 12 feet (3.6 meters).
The probe cable is over-braided in stainless steel for heavy-duty abrasion resistance. The signal wires are FEP insulated. Designed to deliver high performance, high temperature measurements, reliably and consistently.
These high temperature sensors are the choice for professional racing teams, R&D test labs, and enthusiasts. The EGT probes can be used for many different applications, including Karts, Drag Racing, Formula 1, NASCAR, Off Road, Snowmobiles, Aviation, and Marine Racing.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please confirm with your instrument manufacturer that the instrument is compatible with a Type K thermocouple sensor.

APPLICATIONS AND TECHNICAL DETAILS
When the Straight Probe Configuration Solves the Installation Problem
The 4" straight 3/16" EGT-EP is the solution for installations where a 90-degree probe geometrically cannot be used. A 90-degree probe assumes radial entry through the pipe wall, with the fitting and cable remaining outside the exhaust. In some configurations, that geometry is not possible: the bung may be oriented axially at the end of a collector, header tube routing may prevent radial access, or the probe must enter through an existing port that is not perpendicular to the pipe wall.
In these cases, a straight-shaft probe allows the sensor to be inserted along the available axis while still positioning the sensing tip within the exhaust flow.
4" Shaft Length and Positioning Flexibility
With 4 inches of straight sheath, the probe provides greater insertion range than shorter straight probes. This additional length is useful when the probe must reach across a larger pipe diameter or pass through a port boss or manifold casting before entering the main exhaust stream.
The included 316 stainless steel adjustable compression fitting with 1/8"-27 NPT threads allows insertion depth to be set anywhere along the shaft prior to tightening.
Typical tip placement for a 3/16" exposed-tip probe is approximately 1/4" to 3/8" into the exhaust flow from the inner pipe wall, depending on pipe diameter and application. Maximum insertion depth is 2.7 inches.
3/16" Exposed Tip: The Balance Point in the Probe Size Range
The 3/16" EGT-EP series represents a balance between smaller 1/8" probes and larger 1/4" extreme-duty designs. The exposed, ungrounded Type K junction provides a fast 250 millisecond response time (time constant), allowing the probe to capture rapid temperature changes associated with combustion events.
Response time is defined as the time required to reach 63.2% of a step temperature change.
The 3/16" diameter offers sufficient stiffness for higher exhaust velocities while minimizing flow intrusion compared to larger probes. It is commonly used for pre-turbocharger placement, where gas velocity and vibration are higher than in post-turbo locations.
Applications: Gasoline, Marine, Aviation, and Industrial Use
The exposed junction design is intended for clean-burning fuels such as gasoline, natural gas, and alcohol blends. It is commonly used in motorsports, marine gasoline engines, and aviation piston engines where fast response and accurate transient measurement are required.
The straight configuration is particularly useful in marine exhaust systems and industrial combustion applications, where probe entry is often axial through a port or flanged boss rather than radial through a pipe wall.
