High-Performance Air Temperature Probe Sensor – Made in the USA
Engineered for precision and durability, the Air Temperature Probe Sensor is specifically designed for applications requiring accurate temperature control or monitoring. Built from superior materials, this sensor is designed to withstand the demanding conditions of automotive, trucking, agri-vehicle, racing, tuning, and testing applications.
Key Features:
- Optimized for Air Intake Temperature Measurements – The exposed sensing tip is designed for engine intake air only and is not recommended for exhaust applications.
- Versatile Fit & Compact Design – Compatible with most air intake systems ranging from approximately 0.750 inches to 4 inches in diameter, with minor installation modifications. The probe features a 0.125-inch (3mm) diameter with a 90-degree bend, allowing for easy installation in tight spaces.
- Adjustable Compression Fitting – Includes a 316 stainless steel 1/8" NPT compression fitting adapter for secure mounting.
- Durable Cable Construction – The 6-foot (2-meter) cable is over-braided in stainless steel for heavy-duty abrasion resistance, while the FEP-insulated signal wires ensure reliable performance in extreme conditions.
Applications:
The Air Temperature Probe Sensor is the preferred choice for automotive and marine applications, cold air intakes, furnace exhausts, R&D test labs, and more. It is ideal for a wide range of industries, including:
- Marine & Agricultural
- Automotive racing
- Process Management
- Engine Management Systems

About- ATP-SW Series: Air Intake Temperature Probe — Blower, Supercharger, and Induction Applications
The ATP-SW is a Type K thermocouple probe with a 90° bend and a swaged exposed junction tip, designed for fast-response air temperature measurement in intake and process air environments.
It mounts through a 1/8"-27 NPT compression fitting into intake ducts, plenums, intercooler outlets, blower inlets, and throttle bodies. The 90° bend allows the sensing tip to reach duct centerline without excessive insertion depth, while the compact probe geometry minimizes airflow disruption and simplifies installation in tight duct geometry.
Why Intake Air Temperature Matters
Intake air temperature (IAT) directly affects air density and engine performance.
As temperature increases, air density decreases, reducing available oxygen per intake stroke. A 50°F increase in intake air temperature can reduce air density by approximately 5%, affecting power output and combustion behavior.
In forced induction systems:
- Compression raises air temperature
- Intercooler efficiency determines final intake temperature
Measuring IAT at key points provides insight into system performance and thermal behavior under changing load conditions.
Swaged Exposed Junction Construction
The ATP-SW uses a swaged exposed, ungrounded thermocouple junction.
Swaging compresses the MgO insulation at the probe tip, reducing thermal mass and improving heat transfer to the sensing element. Combined with the exposed junction, this produces fast response to changes in airflow temperature.
Response Time
- 250 ms (time constant)
Response time is defined as the time required to reach 63.2% of a step temperature change. Multiple time constants are required to approach full stabilization.
90° Bend Geometry
The 90° bend allows the probe to enter the duct wall and position the sensing tip near the center of airflow.
This improves measurement accuracy by sampling the bulk air temperature rather than the boundary layer near the duct wall.
