MADE IN THE USA
The Bio Diesel Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor is specifically designed for use in Internal Combustion Engines operating on Diesel & Biodiesel or any system using a sulfuric or exhaust systems that are prone to fouling exposed junction EGT probes. This probe has been designed to withstand the rigors of marine and over the road trucking. It will also withstand the rigors of racing, tuning, and testing applications.
Made in the USA from superior materials, designed to withstand highly corrosive saltwater environments and even the most extreme racing conditions. The foul-proof sensing tip is recommended for EGT temperature measurements of sulfuric fuels such as diesel or bio diesel mixtures.
The Exhaust Gas Temperature Probe is capable of surviving extreme vibration and heat up to 2300°F (1300°C). The EGT probe will fit most diesel engine exhaust systems from approximately .750 inch diameter up to about 4 inch diameter with nominal installation modifications. The EGT probe is 0.187" diameter (4.75 mm) with a 4" (101.6 mm) straight shaft. An adjustable (316 Stainless Steel) 1/8" NPT compression fitting adapter is included. The EGT probe cable lead length is 6 feet (1.8 meters).
The probe cable is over-braided in stainless steel for heavy-duty abrasion resistance. The signal wires are FEP insulated. Designed to deliver high performance, high temperature measurements, reliably and consistently in the most extreme operating conditions.
The high temperature sensors of choice for professional racing teams, R&D test labs, and Enthusiasts. The EGT probes can be used for many different applications, including… but not limited to DHRA, Drag Racing, Diesel Sled Pulling, Road Courses, Tow Vehicles and Engine Management.

About - EGT-DP Diesel Probe — 4" Straight, 3/16" Diameter
Commercial and Industrial Duty Exhaust Temperature Sensor
The EGT-DP 4" straight probe is a Type K thermocouple with an enclosed, ungrounded junction, designed for continuous-duty exhaust temperature measurement in diesel, biodiesel, CNG, and LNG engine applications.
The 4" straight Inconel sheath allows deeper insertion into larger exhaust pipes, with a maximum tip insertion depth of 2.8". A 316 stainless steel adjustable compression fitting is included.
What “Commercial and Industrial Duty” Means
Commercial and industrial engines operate under continuous or high-cycle conditions:
- Generator sets running thousands of hours per year
- Heavy-duty trucks operating long distances
- Marine engines running extended load cycles
These environments require sensors that can withstand:
- Thermal cycling
- Vibration
- Exhaust contamination
The EGT-DP probe is designed to meet these conditions through its enclosed junction and rugged sheath construction.
Probe Geometry: Why 4" Straight Matters
Measuring True Exhaust Temperature
Exhaust temperature varies across the pipe:
- Cooler near the wall
- Hotter in the core flow
Short probes often measure the boundary layer rather than the true gas temperature.
The 4" straight probe allows deeper insertion, placing the sensing tip closer to the center of the exhaust stream for more representative measurements.
Geometry Comparison
| Feature | 4" Straight | 90° Bent |
|---|---|---|
| Max insertion | 2.8" | 1.1" |
| Pipe compatibility | Up to ~4" ID | Smaller pipes |
| Best use | Industrial exhaust | Compact engine bays |
Enclosed Ungrounded Junction Design
The probe uses an enclosed, ungrounded junction .
This design:
- Prevents direct exposure of the thermocouple wires to exhaust gases
- Reduces corrosion from sulfur compounds and moisture
- Improves long-term stability
It is the standard configuration for diesel and industrial applications.
Materials and Construction
- Sheath: Inconel 600
- Internal insulation: Magnesium oxide (MgO)
- Cable: Stainless overbraid with Teflon-insulated conductors, 20 AWG
- Fitting: 316 stainless steel compression fitting
The thicker-wall Inconel sheath improves durability in high-vibration environments.
Response Time
- 1200 ms (time constant)
Response time is defined as the time required to reach 63.2% of a step temperature change.
This response speed is appropriate for industrial applications where temperature changes occur gradually.

- Secure at regular intervals
- Use proper thermocouple extension wire if needed
Applications
- Diesel generator systems
- Heavy-duty trucks
- Marine propulsion engines
- Construction and agricultural equipment
- Industrial process engines
- CNG and LNG systems
