The PMD1XT Series gauge has advanced operations including max temperature recall, high temperature alarm, and analog retransmitting output. The gauge’s high resolution digital microprocessor ensures accurate temperature measurement. The PMD1XT Series gauge features a bright four digit LCD display with selectable decimal point position that is easy to read, even in direct sunlight and an industrial grade screw terminal strip allows for quick and easy connection of power and signal wires. Setup and programming of your PMD1XT gauge is simple using the three front panel push buttons. The gauge includes a fast response feedback alarm that gives a visual warning alert, plus an internal relay is triggered that can be used to control an external device, such as a fan or buzzer. You can easily access the max temperature recall feature to display the peak temperature stored in memory. All of our gauges are manufactured from high quality materials for optimum performance in your demanding application.

About - Mini Digital Pyrometer Gauge "Superlite" with Peak Hold

The Design Rationale Behind a 1/32 DIN Pyrometer

Race car instrument panels operate under a severe constraint: useful information must be visible at a glance in a vibrating, brightly lit environment, from a driver wearing a helmet visor at arm’s length from the panel. The PMD1XT was designed around these requirements. The 0.275-inch (7 mm) LED digit height is large enough to be readable in direct sunlight, and the four-digit display provides resolution to 1°F (1°C) across the configured temperature range without compressing the numerical display into illegible small characters.

At 1 inch high, 2 inches wide, and 3 inches deep, the PMD1XT occupies approximately half the panel area of a standard 2-1/16-inch round gauge. This matters in purpose-built race cars where available panel space is limited and every square inch competes with other instrumentation. The 1/32 DIN panel cutout (1.77" × 0.87") is a standardized format, so the gauge can be retrofitted into many OEM instrument locations with a simple adapter plate.

Understanding the 16-Bit ADC and What It Means for Temperature Accuracy

The PMD1XT uses a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter sampling at 4 times per second. This provides high internal resolution across the configured measurement range, minimizing rounding effects at the display level and allowing the gauge to present stable, repeatable readings.

The stated accuracy is ±0.2% of full scale ±1 digit, which is consistent across the operating ambient range of 32°F to 125°F.

The gauge is commonly used with Type K thermocouples for EGT measurement, but it is also configurable for other thermocouple types, RTDs, voltage, and current inputs through the front panel programming interface. This allows the same instrument to be used across multiple measurement types without changing hardware.

Peak Hold Recall and High-Temperature Alarm Operation

The peak hold memory function captures and retains the highest temperature recorded during a run. After a session, pressing the recall button displays the stored peak value, allowing post-run analysis without requiring a data logger or continuous monitoring. The memory is cleared by a long button press, preparing the gauge for the next session.

The programmable high-temperature alarm activates a front-panel LED and closes the internal relay contact when the temperature exceeds the user-set threshold. The relay is rated at 1A @ 30 VDC and can be used to trigger an external warning device such as an audible buzzer or indicator light.

Power input spans 9–16 VDC for standard 12V vehicle systems, with a 16–30 VDC version available for higher voltage applications such as trucks and marine systems.

For experimental and non-certified aircraft use only.
